Ford India is set to launch their Ford EcoSport SUV in the Indian auto market after May 2013. The EcoSport is expected to be available at a competitive price, with the possibility of an introductory price that’s rather favorable  This will give not just other compact SUV’s, but also makers of premium hatchbacks and compact sedans some serious cause for concern. The reason being, there’s vehicles galore in the sub 4 metre category giving buyers a choice between a hatchback and SUV without having to worry too much about how much the car costs, as prices are mostly very close to each other.

Though Ford India abstained from revealing any prices of this upcoming passenger vehicle, avid discussions and estimates have put the urban utility vehicle in the price range of INR 6 lakhs to INR 9 lakhs. Ford EcoSport is SYNC enabled, interactive technology features and will possess a 1.0 liter 125 PS EcoBoost engine which is about 20% more fuel efficient as compared to the 1.6 liter engine. EcoSport will also be available in 1.5 liter diesel engine and 1.5 liter petrol engine with automatic transmission. Interiors are spacious as the company expects to garner the attention of young male buyers with family commitments. EcoSport is an up to date, sporty and technology packed SUV. Ideally suited for urban road conditions, and will have enhanced ground clearance of around 200mm besides efficient turning radius. The company has invested $142 million (INR 7685182000) into its plant in Chennai to support manufacturing of EcoSport as they get ready for production for India as well as for export to countries like Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia and South Africa.
