Mahindra
& Mahindra, the largest utility vehicle manufacture in India, is
soon to introduce its sub 4 meter hatchback – Mahindra Vibe, thereby
foraying into the compact car segment. Based on Mahindra Verito sedan,
the Vibe hatchback is scheduled for launch in May 2013 where it will
compete with other premium hatchbacks such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i20, as well as compact sedans.
This spacious hatchback is being offered only with a diesel
engine. It possesses a spacious boot, despite the fact that it is being
presented in a sub 4 meter category. Powered by Renault’s 1.5 liter K9K
diesel engine, also seen in the Verito Sedan, the engine is capable of
producing 68 bhp power and is mated to a five speed manual gearbox.
Targeting customers on the lookout for power, performance, space and
higher level of fuel efficiency, Vibe hatchback is expected to retail
competitively at a little below Rs 6 lakhs. With the upcoming Vibe,
M&M is expecting to draw the attention of a younger buyer profile
while at the same time catering to the needs of diesel engine
favouritists in India.
M&M is in the meanwhile, thriving on their two very successful
compact SUV models – Quanto and Rexton. Rexton is an instant success in
Indian markets and is attracting major sales. M&M recently launched
their e2o electric vehicle and though the vehicle possesses outstanding
features, it has failed to receive bookings to the degree the company
expected.
